The Blue Devils’ football program posted on their official handle Tuesday night, announcing that they will face NFL Academy next 2026 season on Aug. 21 in Loughborough, United Kingdom.

NFL Academy faced three teams from the United States this past season, with the England-based team facing , and St. Thomas Aquinas. The performance academy traveled to the United States for the games against the Eagles and Ascenders, respectively, while the Raiders visited London and played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The NFL Academy’s headquarters in London is over at Loughborough University, with the other location for the elite football development campuses second located on the Gold Coast in Australia.

This matchup continues the series of high school football programs from the Southeast United States traveling overseas to take on the NFL Academy, with the latest two schools being Edgewater, IMG Academy and St. Thomas Aquinas. In 2024, the Fighting Eagles traveled from Orlando to the United Kingdom and won a wild 51-45 contest against the elite performance academy.

When it comes to playing some of the top high school football programs out of the United States, NFL Academy has sought out the best competition, with the academy facing the likes of such as Edgewater, Massillon (Ohio), De La Salle (Calif.), IMG Academy and St. Thomas Aquinas. NFL Academy currently holds an overall record of 2-8 against American-based teams, but is unbeaten against European opponents.

The connection between Marietta and NFL Academy could stem from the relationship forged by Blue Devils’ head coach Cam Duke, who faced the elite football team in 2024 when he was at Edgewater. Now coaching in Georgia, Duke will get the opportunity to take his new team across the Atlantic Ocean.

Marietta went 5-6 in Duke’s first season at the helm as the Blue Devils qualified for Georgia’s GHSA Class 6A postseason.

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Less than 90 votes prevented a massive political and generational change that had been brewing Tuesday night from becoming reality in Marietta, Georgia.

But early Wednesday morning, with all 13 precincts reporting, incumbent Mayor Steve “Thunder” Tumlin had defeated Sam Foster, a 24-year-old IT systems engineer, by 87 votes.

A 54-year age gap exists between Tumlin, 78, and Foster, a Kennesaw State University grad who has never held elected office before.

Tumlin has served as Marietta mayor since 2010. Marietta is the county seat of metro Atlanta’ populous Cobb County.

Foster, who would have become Marietta’s first Black mayor in history, campaigned on platforms of addressing rising costs and preventing working people from being pushed out of the city; making the city more walkable and bikeable and improving public transit; and a more responsive city government.

The youngest mayor in Georgia history is Brooke Huckaby, elected mayor of Arabi, Georgia, at age 21 in January 2024. Huckaby is also recognized as the youngest female mayor in U.S. history.

Halloween isn't the only major event on the calendar this month. 'No Kings Day' is making a return on Saturday, Oct. 14 with a ton of protests against President Donald Trump scheduled across the nation.

What is No Kings Day?

When it first started, 'No Kings' describes itself as a nationwide day of defiance by multiple groups including Indivisible, 50501, and Stand Up America. The first was on June 14 (Flag Day and Trump's birthday) in opposition to the big military parade he had planned.

While no such parade is happening again, organizers have said they are doing another because they believe Trump's actions continue to reflect fascist policies, especially his sending the National Guard into cities uninvited.

Will there be a No Kings event in Athens?

There will technically be two No Kings events in Athens. The first is 12-2 p.m. involving banners and sign waving along the Prince Avenue/Jefferson Road overpass and along Prince Avenue heading downtown.

The second is being called "The People's Tailgate" on the UGA North Campus where volunteers will be handing out stickers and brochures. Set-up is at 10:30 a.m. and they will be welcoming visitors from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
