The boardwalk is transformed into a mile-long trail of lights from Plyler Park to the Second Avenue Pier.
Throughout the 30-day event, the city is planning special festivities, including a twinkling 2-mile run, First Friday art walks, a Light Up the Night slow-roll bike ride and New Year’s Eve fireworks.

Officials in the South Strand announced the cancellation of upcoming holiday events.
The city of Georgetown said the Christmas committee canceled the Christmas parade and tree lighting because of the weather.
“It was a difficult and heartbreaking decision for us to make, the 10 of us on the Committee have worked for months to plan and put on these events,” a Facebook post said Friday.
Officials said the parade cannot be rescheduled because of the time crunch and too many floats and bands are already booked for other parades.

Co-owner Bill Howard said the diner is nearly ready to open.
“It’s coming along, we’re almost done,” said Howard.
Mayor Robert Krouse said council members recently toured the restaurant to see the progress firsthand.
He said the town’s goal is to support the diner’s opening, not stand in its way.
“It’s in our best interest and the business’s best interest that the restaurant opens up,” said Krouse.
Krouse said they are working to help the diner obtain its certificate of occupancy, but from there, it’s up to diner ownership to finish preparations and open.
The pier currently features Perry’s Bait and Tackle and Drippy’s Ice Cream, both of which opened in 2024.
Longtime resident Sharon Knee said the Surf Diner was a favorite before the old pier was destroyed by Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
“We went there all the time — we loved it,” Knee said. “I don’t understand the wait. I think it should open.”
Another local business owner, who operates a kiosk on the pier, said the diner’s opening would help attract more visitors.
Krouse said the town’s new kiosks were also a learning curve this summer, but expects even more participation next year.
“We had some that couldn’t come to fruition even though they were interested,” said Krouse. “I think they learned and we learned, and I think we’re going to fill those spots next year.”
Although there’s no official deadline, Krouse said the goal is to open the Surf Diner before the 2026 summer season.
“By 2026 — exactly when, I’m not sure,” Krouse said. “But before the season starts, I see no reason we wouldn’t have all of those businesses open and running at full force.”
As for the Whistling Duck, another upcoming pier restaurant, the owners said they are awaiting their liquor license and hope to announce an opening date in the coming weeks.

You need to show at least one of the following forms of identification:
If you forget to bring your photo ID to vote, you may vote a provisional ballot that will count only if you show your photo ID to your county voter registration office prior to certification of the election.
NORTH CAROLINA
Voters will be asked to show photo ID when voting in North Carolina.
However, the North Carolina State Board of Elections said all voters will be allowed to vote with or without a photo ID by filling out an ID Exception Form. If absentee-by-mail voters are unable to include a copy of their photo ID with their ballot envelope, they can also fill out an ID Exception Form to return with their ballot.
